How Intelligent Process Cooling Works
Process cooling is often regarded as just a "utility." Traditional design constraints allow only incremental improvements, and many costs continue unchecked: water and energy usage, chemical treatment and maintenance.
There is another way. Frigel brings you Intelligent Process Cooling—a system that uses ambient air to cool clean process water and offers flexibility with easy installation.
Cooling Tower Alternative
What makes the Ecodry system smarter begins with a closed-circuit fluid cooler, in place of a traditional cooling tower. The water returning from the process is pumped into heat exchangers and cooled with ambient air flow. This process provides clean water at the right temperature to process machines year round.
The result is a modular, flexible, pre-engineered system that promises the best performance, lowest operating cost and highest reliability for installation anywhere. Read more about the Ecodry system advantage.
Maintaining Water Temperature below Setpoint with Adiabatic Cooling
- When ambient air hits 85°F or higher, it passes through an "adiabatic chamber" before reaching the heat exchanger.
- Water from a secondary source is "pulsed" into the chamber, and the resulting humidified air drops the closed-circuit cooling system water temperature to at or below 95°F, even with ambient temperatures as high as 120°F.
- To ensure consistent cooling, the control panel continuously adjusts the amount of water sprayed. The heat exchanger, meanwhile, remains completely dry.
Under cold weather conditions, if ambient air dips below 32°F, Ecodry has a fully-automatic, self-draining system that protects it from freezing.
Use with or without a Central Chiller
Ecodry can be used with or without a central chiller unit.
Alternatively, you can use it with individual Microgel (combination chiller/temperature control unit) or Turbogel (TCU) machines to achieve temperature control and infinite temperature variation at each machine.
In that case, a single set of uninsulated pipes supplies the process water, without heat gain, to each machine. By controlling flow and temperature at the point of use, you conserve energy and optimize processes.
Other Energy Efficiency Improvements
A variety of features make the Ecodry system more energy efficient than cooling tower systems.
Free cooling when set point and local ambient conditions permit. This feature alone can save up to 80 percent on energy costs and improve processes, positively impacting productivity.
